Dutch designer Niels van Roij's latest creation is called the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage. It pays tribute to the one-off 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Shooting Brake, faithfully reinterpreting its defining design cues.

The original Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Shooting Brake was commissioned by Luigi Chinetti Jr., Ferrari's U.S. importer, for a wealthy client. Now Niels van Roij has followed a similar path.

The Dutch designer is already known to our readers for projects including the Volvo P1800 ES Norrsken restomod and a convertible based on the modern Land Rover Defender 90.

More than 15,000 hours went into creating the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage. The bodywork transformation is extensive: only the side doors remain from the donor Ferrari 599 GTB coupe built in the late 2000s. Every other exterior body panel is new, while the shooting brake also features bespoke headlights and taillights.

The highlight of the new body is its elegant cargo area, featuring a fixed glass rear panel and two gullwing-style side-opening hatches. The cargo compartment is divided into two sections with different floor heights. Both are finished in exposed carbon fiber and fitted with aluminum cargo rails.

Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed in soft cognac-colored leather. The dashboard has also been redesigned to match the historic prototype, with the instrument cluster relocated to the center of the dash. The layout isn't the most ergonomic, but it is both distinctive and historically faithful.

Niels van Roij Design has not disclosed any technical details about the shooting brake. It is likely unchanged from the donor car. The Ferrari 599 GTB is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 producing 620 horsepower and 448 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automated manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of more than 205 mph.

Interestingly, the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage comes with a custom-tailored three-piece suit. It's not intended for the car's owner, however, but for Niels van Roij himself. The suit will remain at the design studio, where he plans to wear it when meeting prospective clients and collectors.

The price of the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage has not been disclosed, but it is clearly substantial—most likely several million euros. There will never be a second example, although Niels van Roij is happy to create other one-off shooting brakes or automotive masterpieces with different body styles for future wealthy clients.
