This ranking is based on recall data and owner complaints from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), along with information from CarComplaints.com. Using those sources, we've ranked 10 luxury SUVs for the 2026 model year, from the least reliable to the overall winner.

The Escalade is an icon of American luxury, commanding attention through its sheer size alone. But even icons have their flaws.
Three NHTSA recalls in a short period is a lot. The first was almost comical: the owner's manual was missing. Then things became more serious, with recalls involving a risk of wheel lockup while driving and improperly secured front wheel bolts. Nine owner complaints were recorded, most involving complete failure of the 6.2-liter V8 or crankshaft failures.

The most powerful SUV on this list is essentially a supercar disguised as a family vehicle. Those 717 horsepower come at a price beyond the purchase cost, with two recalls already issued shortly after launch.
A faulty tire-pressure monitoring sensor is inconvenient but manageable. A failed rear lower suspension control arm is a far more serious concern at 124 mph. According to Reliability Index, Aston Martin models have traditionally been more expensive to maintain than their competitors.

Mercedes-Benz's flagship SUV continues to set the standard for comfort in its class. Its two recalls both involve passenger safety: improper airbag deployment and incorrectly tightened rear seat belt bolts.
Mechanically, there are no major issues, which is impressive for a vehicle loaded with electronics. According to Consumer Reports' 2025 data, the GLS receives an average reliability rating—a respectable result for a Mercedes-Benz.

BMW's flagship SUV delivers an engaging driving experience. The B58 inline-six in the xDrive40i is widely regarded as one of the industry's best engines.
The V8 version raises more concerns. Two recalls cover airbag issues and a windshield sealing problem that can allow water into the vehicle's electronics. According to RepairPal, the average annual maintenance cost for a BMW X7 in the United States is about $1,560, well above the segment average.

Acura consistently ranks among the top five brands for initial quality. The MDX also benefits from Honda and Acura parts that are generally less expensive than comparable European components.

Genesis has been around for only a short time, but the brand has ambitious goals. The GV80 has already earned numerous awards for its design and value.
Its only recall involves the instrument cluster, while four owner complaints relate to relatively minor electronic issues. According to Consumer Reports' 2025 study, Genesis ranked second among all brands for reliability, trailing only Lexus.
