The Lexus RX Morizo RR is back at the Nürburgring, revealing a functional hood vent and its sport-focused interior.
The RX Morizo RR prototype has returned to the Nürburgring, following its appearance near the Nordschleife in August 2026. This time, the Lexus test vehicle is wearing less camouflage, giving a clearer look at several details that could define the high-performance crossover.
The most obvious change is the large mesh-covered opening positioned toward the rear of the hood, just ahead of the windshield. Its placement and construction suggest a functional vent rather than a styling exercise, pointing toward the substantial heat output expected from a turbocharged powertrain.
That raises the possibility that Toyota's G20E inline-four could be powering the RX Morizo RR. The engine has been previewed through the GR Yaris M Concept and competition in Japan's Super Taikyu series. Unlike the G16E used by the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, the G20E is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder capable of producing more than 400 horsepower from the factory. A 600-horsepower version has also been discussed, although that output appears better suited to a powertrain incorporating electric assistance.
A hybrid setup would also fit the RX's existing performance strategy. The RX 500h F Sport Performance already combines electrification with a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four, producing 366 horsepower and 406 pound-feet (460 Newton-meters).
Hearsay suggests electric motors for both axles of the RX Morizo RR. Believed to make in the ballpark of 600 horsepower, the mid-sized crossover is targeting a 2027 launch for the 2028 model year. Toyota has already confirmed work on a performance-oriented 2.0-liter I4, making the newly exposed hood vent another visible clue pointing toward that engine family.
The interior provides another indication of the RX Morizo RR's intentions. The latest photos show heavily bolstered front seats with red contrast stitching, giving the cabin a considerably sportier appearance than the current RX models sold in the United States, Europe, and Japan.
The center console remains far from production-ready. Exposed wiring is visible, while a diagnostic tablet occupies the position where the production infotainment display would normally sit. The screen shows "Engine Start Procedure," although the remaining start-up sequence information cannot be made out in the image.
The hardware spotted on the prototype last month is still present. The RX Morizo RR continues to feature widened bodywork, larger brakes fitted with Brembo calipers, dual exhaust outlets, Michelin tires, and lightweight RAYS wheels.
With 265- and 295-section tires, the RX Morizo RR could also adopt dynamic rear steering and braking posture control from the RX 500h F Sport Performance. Positioned above the LBX Morizo RR, the new crossover is shaping up to take on V8-powered German performance models.
