A drunk van driver staged a bee attack to take revenge on the law enforcement officers for a fine.
In the Spanish province of Lleida, a local patrol became the victim of an unusual attack. The cause of the conflict was a banal fine for an unfastened seatbelt, but then the situation took a comical turn.
How it happened. The police stopped a 70-year-old van driver for a traffic violation, for not wearing a seatbelt. During the conversation, the police smelled alcohol on the man. A breathalyzer test showed 0.38 per mille (approximately after a bottle of beer). The man refused a second test, and when they began to draw up the protocol, he opened the trunk and released a swarm of bees from the transported hive.
The law enforcement officers had to take urgent shelter in the nearest restaurant. The pensioner now faces not only a fine for drunken driving but also a criminal charge for attacking the police (under Article 550 of the Spanish Penal Code, this is up to 4 years in prison).
Interesting fact: In 2022, 17 cases of using animals in conflicts with the police were recorded in Catalonia (where Lleida is located), but the "bee" incident is the first in the history of the region.
