The Xiaomi YU7 crossover, the company's first full-fledged electric vehicle, hit the Chinese market with such a frenzy that the purchase queue has already extended to 62 weeks. The model sparked a significant interest — both among brand fans and those who have long considered electric cars.

According to Chinese media, sales have already started in 58 cities, and the first owners who pre-ordered immediately after the announcement have already received their cars. The rest will have to be patient: waiting for a car in the basic configuration can take more than a year.

However, there is a caveat: those who chose more expensive versions with additional options can receive their cars sooner — on average, 10–15 weeks earlier. This is because the assembly of more advanced configurations is prioritized as they are more profitable for the manufacturer and more complex to assemble, but due to lower demand — they are processed faster.

The demand is truly impressive: according to official information, within the first three days of the pre-order opening, Xiaomi collected more than 315,000 applications for the YU7. This is notwithstanding the fact that the company's current production capabilities are limited — the Beijing plant can produce no more than 150,000 vehicles a year. This has been the main reason for such long waiting times.

Amidst this situation, it has become known that Xiaomi is already working on expanding production. According to insider information, the second production line is expected to start operating in late summer 2025. It is anticipated that this will significantly reduce delivery times.

Some fans of the brand received their YU7 personally from the hands of Xiaomi's head Lei Jun. At a recent meeting with buyers, he noted that the vehicle resonates with two key categories: those who are passionate about new technologies and love dynamic driving, and families with children — for whom the crossover has become a reliable and spacious solution for everyday use.

By the way, the deposit for the pre-order was 20,000 yuan — about 2,700 US dollars at the current exchange rate.
