Chinese automaker BYD reported strong results for August 2025, with record-breaking sales both at home and abroad. The company sold 373,626 vehicles across all its sub-brands during the month, bringing year-to-date sales to 2.86 million units—up 23% compared to the same period last year. Production of electric and hybrid vehicles from January through August reached about 2.81 million units, an increase of 21%.

Overseas demand continued to surge. Exports of BYD passenger cars and pickups rose nearly two and a half times year-over-year, totaling 80,464 units for the month.

The breakdown of August sales highlights the dominance of BYD’s mass-market Dynasty and Ocean lineups, which together accounted for 342,838 vehicles. These mid-priced models form the backbone of the company’s business.

Sales for Fangchengbao, BYD’s SUV-oriented premium brand, reached 16,265 units, while luxury marque Denza delivered 11,993 vehicles—solid results given the segment’s higher price point.

At the top end of the market, BYD’s flagship Yangwang brand sold just 405 vehicles in August. With price tags exceeding 1 million yuan (about $140,000), Yangwang targets an ultra-exclusive supercar niche where such numbers are typical.

BYD continues to expand aggressively overseas, competing head-to-head with Tesla and other global EV makers.
