The new Avatr made its debut as a concept. While this show car is unlikely to reach production, its design cues are expected to influence upcoming models from the brand.

At the IAA Mobility show, which opened today in Munich, Changan unveiled the world premiere of the massive Avatr Vision Xpectra concept sedan. Avatr is a joint venture between automaker Changan, tech giant Huawei, and battery maker CATL, positioned as a premium brand for advanced electrified vehicles.

The IAA stage is already familiar territory for Avatr — two years ago the company revealed its striking Avatr 12 sedan here. The brand also maintains its own design studio in Munich.

The Vision Xpectra stands out with a sharply angular exterior. It features an almost entirely glass roof, while the rear doors open in a rear-hinged “suicide door” style.

The concept is designed to recognize its owner: as they approach, the car greets them with a light show, thanks to embedded LED strips across the solid front fascia and doors.

The Vision Xpectra measures 230 inches long, 84 inches wide, and 55 inches tall, riding on a 135.8-inch wheelbase. For context, its overall length puts it on par with an extended-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Inside, the four-seat cabin emphasizes sweeping horizontal lines across the dash and doors. The headrests are designed to inflate for added comfort, while a “floating” console separates the rear seats. Naturally, Avatr highlights the integration of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technology.

Technical specifications remain undisclosed, and the Vision Xpectra is almost certainly destined to remain a concept. Still, its design language is expected to trickle down to future Avatr models. Chinese media suggest that styling cues will appear on a large three-row SUV due next year. By 2030, Avatr plans to launch 17 new vehicles.
