Ford has patented a new system for securing car floor mats.
Ford has filed a patent for a new design of car floor mats and a fixation system that could appear in the brand’s future models. The application was submitted on December 16, 2022, and published on October 14, 2025, under number 12441222.
According to the filing, the system uses special mounting points and fasteners that connect the mat to the seat rail. This design is intended to prevent mats from shifting while driving—a problem that has sometimes led to accidental pedal engagement and accidents.
Ford noted that filing patents is a standard part of the company’s development process and intellectual property protection. The automaker emphasized that while not every idea makes it to production, such innovations reflect Ford’s commitment to improving safety and comfort. The new technology could be featured in upcoming vehicles where cabin safety is a key focus.
