In the UK, an unusual creation has made headlines — a fully functional shed on wheels, built with one goal in mind: to enter the Guinness World Records. The eccentric project, called Ed the Shed, was brought to life by 61-year-old children’s author Brian Cade.

Ed the Shed was designed specifically to beat the existing world speed record for sheds, which currently stands at 170.5 km/h (106 mph), according to the 2020 Guinness World Records.

The quirky vehicle is based on an old TVR sports car, stripped of its original body and fitted with a handcrafted wooden shed, complete with a decorative chimney. The design was inspired by illustrations from Cade’s own children’s book, The Pig Escapade — a modern retelling of The Three Little Pigs.

While aerodynamics were clearly not the priority, Ed the Shed has proven surprisingly fast. During its first run on August 20, it reached 154.4 km/h (96 mph) before the clutch burned out.

Last weekend, at an airfield in Yorkshire, Cade and his team made several more runs — this time pushing the shed to an impressive 198 km/h (123 mph).

Unfortunately, no Guinness officials were present, so the record-breaking attempt will need to be repeated and officially verified before it enters the books.
