Roadway danger alert: Toyo is recalling off-road tires due to the risk of tread separation.
A major tire recall is underway in the United States after the manufacturer identified a potential safety issue. Nearly 37,000 off-road tires sold under the Toyo and Nitto brands are being pulled from the market, with owners eligible for free replacements.
The affected tires were manufactured at the company’s Georgia plant in January 2025. The recall stems from a defect that could compromise vehicle control, prompting an immediate safety response.
Investigators traced the issue to contamination on the belt surface during production. This contamination weakened the bond between tire layers, increasing the likelihood of partial or complete tread or belt separation. If this occurs, drivers could lose control of their vehicles, potentially leading to an accident.
The recall covers 12 tire models ranging in size from 17 to 20 inches in diameter. They include: Toyo Open Country A/T III, Open Country R/T Trail, Open Country M/T, Open Country H/T II, as well as Nitto Crosstek 2, Dura Grappler, Exo Grappler AWT, Mud Grappler, Recon Grappler A/T, Ridge Grappler, Terra Grappler G3, and Trail Grappler. All affected tires were produced on January 23 and 24, 2025.
The problem first surfaced in September 2025, when a Toyo Open Country A/T III tire (LT285/70 R17) was returned with clear signs of belt separation. Two similar cases followed soon after, prompting an internal investigation. Following the review, the company decided to recall every tire made during that two-day production window.
Toyo emphasized that customer safety remains its top priority. Owners of affected tires are urged to visit an authorized dealer as soon as possible to have their tires replaced at no cost. All replacement work will be performed free of charge.
