Two years ago, Toyota unveiled a concept called the X-Van Gear — a vehicle designed to appeal to shoppers who want the practicality of a minivan combined with the versatility of a crossover.

Now several major Japanese outlets have published new information about the production version, shedding light on what to expect.

Despite rumors suggesting the rugged X-Van Gear would debut in October at the JMS 2025 show in Tokyo, the model never made an appearance. Still, that doesn’t mean the project has stalled.

Development is ongoing, and the vehicle’s debut is now expected sometime within the next 12 months.

Early reports point to a length of roughly 4.7 meters, with both width and height around 1.8 meters. Inside, the cabin should comfortably seat up to six people without dramatically eating into cargo space.

On the outside, the new Toyota is said to feature a boxy profile, matte-black bumpers that hint at off-road capability, and unusual sliding doors.

The original concept lacked center pillars, a design that made loading bulky items much easier. Whether Toyota will carry that idea over to the production model remains unclear.

Technical details are still scarce. Rumor has it the vehicle will ride on the TNGA-C platform and may use either a 2.0-liter gasoline engine or a hybrid setup built around a 1.8-liter unit. One thing seems certain: the crossover-minivan will offer all-wheel drive.

As for pricing, insiders expect the starting figure to land around 3.5 million yen — roughly $22,500.
