Ford’s electric-vehicle roadmap is going through a rough reshuffle. The company has put several upcoming EVs on pause and temporarily halted production of the F-150 Lightning.
At the same time, the automaker is laying the groundwork for a new lineup built on its Universal EV Platform, set to debut in 2027 with an electric pickup before expanding to a family of more affordable models. One of the vehicles riding on this architecture is expected to be a performance-focused, rear-wheel-drive electric sedan—the one Jim Farley recently teased.
Farley didn’t dive into details, but he did hint that the mystery model will have a clean, minimalist profile and a “cool closing system” at the rear that opens up generous cargo space. That strongly suggests a liftback-style sedan.
While specifics remain under wraps, Ford floated the idea of a four-door Mustang back in 2022, and in 2024 dealers were shown an early render of a future electric sedan.
