Smart Unveils Its First Ever Liftback: Geely Engine and Unique Design

Photos reveal Smart’s new liftback, showcasing its specs, design, and hints at when it might debut.

Smart, the brand jointly owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz, is set to expand its lineup in China with the first liftback in its history. The new model will carry the “6” designation in the local market.

Visually, the Smart #6 features a distinctive design unique to the brand. It’s also a relatively large car for Smart: measuring 4,906 mm (193 inches) long, 1,922 mm (76 inches) wide, and 1,508 mm (59 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,926 mm (115 inches).

The liftback is expected to come with a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine borrowed from the Smart #5 crossover. The internal combustion engine produces 163 horsepower, paired with an electric motor delivering 272 horsepower. Battery capacity will vary depending on the version, offering either 20 kWh or 41.46 kWh.

Images of the Smart #6 have appeared as part of the vehicle’s certification process. Exact details on the global launch or the China-market debut have not yet been announced.
