Mercedes-AMG has announced that Dr. Stefan Weckbach will become the company’s new CEO. He will succeed Michael Scheibe, who is moving into a board role overseeing production, quality, and supply-chain operations. The transition is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026.

Weckbach will also head the Top End Vehicle Group, which includes the Maybach lineup and the G-Class. His career at Porsche, which began in 2008, spans leadership roles in the development of the Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, and the all-electric Taycan. In 2022, he took charge of the Mission X project — the initiative aimed at creating a successor to the 918 Spyder hypercar.

Jörg Burzer, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG Board of Management responsible for development and procurement, as well as the company’s CTO, emphasized that Weckbach “combines deep product knowledge with strong strategic capabilities and brings exceptionally broad experience in shaping both performance and luxury segments. He has consistently shown an ability to steer corporate and product initiatives with ease and drive complex automotive programs forward. That combination makes him an ideal choice.”

Weckbach’s background in EV development — especially his work on the Taycan — is also expected to play a key role in Mercedes-AMG’s shift toward electrification.
