Most drivers take pride in keeping their car’s interior looking sharp — which is why scratches on plastic trim can be especially frustrating. Fortunately, there are several ways to deal with the problem. You can leave the job to professionals (always the safest choice), or try tackling the issue yourself.

1. Furniture Wax

Liquid furniture waxes do a surprisingly good job at hiding surface marks and fine scratch patterns, while also giving the plastic a refreshed shine. The thin wax layer helps protect the interior from dust buildup as well.

2. Colorless Shoe Polish

A neutral shoe cream can work wonders on small scratches. Much like wax, it leaves behind a water-repellent film that keeps dust from sticking. Just remember that some shoe creams carry a noticeable smell, so use sparingly.

3. A Household Hair Dryer

In some cases, gentle heat can help the plastic “relax” and reduce the visibility of light scuffs or fine cracks. This trick doesn’t always work, and it requires caution — too much heat can cause damage — but it’s an option that occasionally pays off.

4. Automotive Scratch Products

Most auto parts stores sell dedicated scratch-removal and plastic-restoration products. These are designed to mask or even fully eliminate minor surface imperfections, though they won’t fix deep gouges.

5. Plastic Repair Pen

For deeper scratches, you can find specialized repair pens made specifically for plastic trim. When used properly, they can make worn areas look nearly factory-fresh.
