The Avatr 12 electric vehicle has reached the shores of Antarctica for the first time.
The liftback, transported to the icy continent aboard the vessel Snow Dragon, will take part in a scientific expedition designed to test its performance under extreme cold, with temperatures dropping as low as -58°F (-50°C).
The collaboration between Avatr Technology (Chongqing), the China Automotive Central Engineering Institute, and the China Polar Research Center, announced this summer, aims to accelerate the development and implementation of advanced electric vehicle technologies.
The first Global Adaptive Innovation Base, established as part of this partnership, will serve as a key testing ground for cutting-edge transportation solutions using new energy sources.
The Avatr 12, sent specifically for this expedition, will become the first electric vehicle to undergo trials on ice, loose snow, and challenging routes featuring polar crevasses. These tests are expected to provide valuable insights into EV durability and adaptability in some of the harshest conditions on Earth.
