Earlier reports claimed the designer had left the company, but Jaguar has called that information “untrue.”
Following the retirement of former Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell, the company appointed Balaji, previously Chief Financial Officer at Tata Motors, as its new chief executive. Shortly after the leadership change, media reports began circulating that McGovern had allegedly been “removed from the office” and stripped of his position.
A Jaguar spokesperson has since pushed back on those claims, telling the media: “It is not true that we have dismissed Gerry McGovern. We do not plan to comment further on speculative reports.”
Gerry McGovern has worked with the Jaguar and Land Rover brands for more than 21 years. His portfolio includes landmark models such as the Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Defender, and the current Range Rover lineup. He also led the development of the Type 00 concept, which drew mixed reactions from the public.
Before joining JLR, McGovern worked at the Austin Rover Group and Ford. His earlier projects include the MG EX-E concept car, as well as the popular MG F and Land Rover Freelander models.
