Yuchai Group, a partner of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, unveiled its Flywheel Range Extender at a conference on January 24, 2026. The system integrates a flywheel directly with the engine’s crankshaft, combining the energy source and generator into one compact design.

According to the company, the generator achieves a maximum efficiency of 4.8 kWh per liter of diesel fuel, offering up to 50% fuel savings compared to traditional solutions. The technology is intended for commercial and specialized vehicles, including trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, and port equipment, with power outputs ranging from 15 to 600 kW.

Yuchai’s FRS platform is already in use by manufacturers such as FAW Jiefang, Dongfeng, XCMG, Sany, and Caterpillar.
