A common cigarette can help remove stubborn windshield streaks if you know this unusual trick.

Simple Cigarette Hack to Keep Your Car’s Windshield Clean and Streak-Free

It might sound surprising, but a regular cigarette can actually help clean your car’s windshield—if you use it the right way. This method works in many situations, especially when dealing with streaks and residue left behind by windshield wipers. It’s particularly effective against oily smudges and water marks that can make driving frustrating.

What you’ll need:

  • A pack of inexpensive, strong cigarettes
  • A piece of 100% cotton cloth

At first glance, those greasy streaks and cloudy marks on your windshield may seem impossible to remove. But with this simple trick, you can deal with them quickly using items you may already have on hand. The entire process only takes a few minutes.

Start by soaking a cotton cloth in warm water, then wring it out thoroughly so it’s damp but not dripping. Lay the cloth flat on a clean surface. Take 5–10 cigarettes, break them open, and spread the tobacco evenly across the fabric.

Let the cloth sit for about 5–10 minutes so it absorbs the tobacco. You’ll know it’s ready when the fabric turns a yellowish-brown color. Shake off any loose tobacco, then begin wiping down the windshield, making sure to cover the entire surface. Before doing this, lightly rinse the glass with water. The wiping process itself should take about 3–5 minutes.

Afterward, let the windshield sit for a couple of minutes with any remaining residue. Then turn on your wipers and run them for 10–15 passes using windshield washer fluid. If any bits of tobacco remain, simply rinse them off with clean water.

This unconventional approach can help restore clarity to your windshield and improve visibility—without expensive cleaning products.
