New GMC Sierra SUV Will Be More Powerful and More Efficient: First Teaser Image Released
General Motors has revealed the first teaser image of the redesigned GMC Sierra SUV, previewing a bold new look.
General Motors has released the first teaser image of the updated GMC Sierra SUV, and it bears a striking resemblance to its all-electric counterpart. Unlike the EV, however, the upcoming model will continue to offer a range of powerful internal combustion engines.
The teaser arrives shortly after GM unveiled the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado. The 2027 GMC Sierra is expected to share much of its underlying technology with Chevrolet’s full-size pickup. Company officials confirmed that the vehicle will make its public debut in the near future, although no specific launch timeline has been announced.

The design direction chosen for the new Sierra may surprise some buyers because the gasoline-powered and electric versions appear nearly identical at first glance. The similarity is also expected to extend to the rear of the vehicle.
The teaser image reveals a bold front-end design featuring large headlamps with vertically oriented LED daytime running lights that curve slightly inward. Compared with the electric model, however, the headlights appear wider. The combustion-powered Sierra also gains an additional lighting element positioned below the main headlamp units, likely serving as fog lights.

The hood design and oversized grille closely mirror those found on the electric version. As a result, both models are expected to share a similar interior layout and many of the same technology features.
Inside, the new Sierra is expected to feature a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster positioned separately from a 16.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Reports also suggest that GM could offer an additional 11.5-inch display mounted in front of the front passenger, bringing even more digital functionality to the cabin.
General Motors is also expected to maintain its familiar trim strategy. The flagship Denali model will likely continue to distinguish itself with premium materials and exclusive interior finishes unavailable on lower trims.

Several features introduced on the latest Silverado are expected to carry over to the Sierra, including dual wireless smartphone charging pads integrated into the wide center console and a large panoramic glass roof. GMC is also likely to equip the truck with the latest version of its Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance system, along with genuine wood trim accents throughout the cabin.
Under the hood, GM is reportedly preparing upgrades for both the turbocharged 2.7-liter gasoline engine and the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel. Higher-end Sierra trims are expected to receive new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter powerplants.
Neither General Motors nor Chevrolet has released complete specifications for the upcoming trucks. However, previous reports indicated that the two new engines are related to the 6.7-liter powerplant used in the Corvette lineup. That engine produces up to 535 horsepower, raising expectations that the new Sierra's top engines could deliver similar levels of performance.
If those projections prove accurate, the redesigned Sierra could offer a compelling combination of increased power, improved efficiency, and advanced technology when it arrives for the 2027 model year.
