Volkswagen Recalls 250,000+ SUVs Over Steering and Engine-Stall Risks
Volkswagen is recalling more than 250,000 vehicles in the U.S. over steering, software and engine-stall concerns.
Volkswagen is recalling 208,724 vehicles, including 2018 Tiguan, 2018-2019 Atlas and 2019-2021 Audi Q3 models. One of the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe may corrode and break. If the bolt fails, the steering rack housing could also break.
Dealers will replace the right-side steering rack mounting bolt free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 10.
Owners can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen recall numbers for this issue are 48LG and 48VT. Vehicle Identification Numbers included in the recall can be checked on the NHTSA website.
Volkswagen is also recalling 49,958 2025 Tiguan vehicles because a software error may cause the body control module to reset. The problem could cause the ignition to switch off and the engine to stall.
The software issue may also result in the loss of certain vehicle controls, warning lights or exterior lighting. In some cases, the rearview camera system may also stop working.
Dealers will update the body control module software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 6.
