The SR GT 400 blends Aprilia’s sportbike DNA with rugged crossover capability for urban and off-road riding.
When it comes to sportbikes, few manufacturers can match Aprilia’s charisma.
In recent years, the Italian brand has been exploring new niches: first came the adventure Tuareg 660, and now Aprilia enters the “heavy artillery” of the scooter world. The new Aprilia SR GT 400 is a potent mix of racing aesthetics and off-road ambition.
The SR GT 400 now tops Aprilia’s scooter lineup, surpassing the Sport and Replica versions. At its core is a liquid-cooled 400cc single-cylinder engine, delivering 36 horsepower at 7,500 RPM and 27.8 lb-ft of torque.
To reach these figures, engineers redesigned key components: a lightweight piston, a longer connecting rod, and a PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system to reduce pumping losses. The result is a sprint to 200 feet in just 5 seconds.
The engine is mounted in a new high-strength steel tube frame, which developers claim offers “extreme rigidity.” The suspension is far from ordinary scooter fare:
Braking is handled by a 12-inch (300mm) disc with a radial four-piston caliper, supported by Bosch dual-channel ABS and Aprilia’s ATC traction control.
Visually, the SR GT 400 screams aggression. Its tall stance, sharp lines, and vivid graphics echo Aprilia’s bigger sportbikes, yet beneath the bold look lies ample comfort.
Weighing 410 pounds (186 kg), the scooter offers one of the best power-to-weight ratios in its class. A 3.2-gallon (12 L) fuel tank provides around 186 miles (300 km) of range.
Pre-orders have now opened in Europe. Pricing starts at €6,750 — roughly $8,000. It’s not cheap, but Aprilia delivers a scooter that rides like a sportbike and tackles gravel without fear.
