Ford has announced a series of recalls affecting more than 171,000 vehicles in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Most of the campaigns involve vehicles that were previously repaired under earlier recalls but may not have received the correct fix.

Here's a breakdown of the affected models and the issues involved.

Nearly 91,200 Ford F-150 Trucks Recalled Over Lighting Problem

The largest campaign covers 91,198 model-year 2018-2020 Ford F-150 pickups that were previously serviced under recall 20V097.

According to Ford, switching the headlight control from "Autolamps" to "Headlamps On" may cause the daytime running lights to remain at full brightness instead of dimming as intended.

Dealers will update the body control module software at no cost to owners. Notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on July 6. The recall carries Ford reference number 26C28.

More Than 44,900 2014 F-150s Recalled for Unexpected Downshifts

Another recall affects 44,963 model-year 2014 F-150 trucks that were previously repaired under campaign 24V444.

A communication issue between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module can cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into first gear, potentially creating a safety hazard.

Ford dealers will install updated software free of charge. This campaign is identified as recall number 26S45.

2017 Ford Escape Models Recalled for Power Window Issue

Ford is also recalling 18,124 examples of the 2017 Escape that had earlier repairs performed under recall 16V617.

The power windows may exert too much force before reversing after encountering an obstruction, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will update the window control software free of charge. Ford has assigned recall number 26C29 to the campaign.

More Than 10,700 F-150 Trucks Recalled for Gear Selection Problem

A separate recall covers 10,742 model-year 2018 F-150 pickups that were previously repaired under campaign 17V669.

Rapidly shifting from Park to Drive could temporarily cause the instrument cluster to lose gear indication and may even result in an unintended gear selection, including Neutral or Reverse.

Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module at no cost. Ford's internal reference number for this campaign is 26S42.

Focus and Fusion Sedans Included in Clutch Recall

Ford is recalling 5,252 vehicles, including 2015-2018 Focus models and 2013-2016 Fusion sedans.

The company says the clutch assembly may fracture, potentially damaging the transmission and leading to a transmission fluid leak.

Affected vehicles were previously repaired under recalls 18V169 and 18V845. Dealers will perform a software update free of charge. The recall is designated 26S43.

Lincoln Nautilus Models Recalled for Driver Monitoring Issue

The smallest campaign affects 1,013 examples of the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus.

Ford says the lane-centering assist system may not adequately detect when a driver's hands have been off the steering wheel for an extended period.

Dealers will update the power steering control module software at no charge. This recall is listed under Ford number 26S44.

Owner Notifications Begin in July

Ford expects owner notification letters for all six campaigns to begin mailing on July 6. Owners with questions can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) for all affected vehicles are expected to become searchable through the NHTSA database on July 6, allowing owners to confirm whether their vehicle is included in one of the latest recall campaigns.
