Honda is preparing a new Avancier three-row SUV aimed at buyers seeking more space, comfort and upscale features.
Honda is preparing to bring back the Avancier as part of a revised product strategy. The flagship SUV is expected to target buyers looking for a more upscale and comfortable family vehicle, replacing the Odyssey in the lineup. The model could make its debut in spring 2027, and Japanese media have already reported a projected price.
The Honda Avancier first appeared in 1999 as a large crossover for the Japanese market. The second-generation model debuted in 2016 as a larger SUV aimed primarily at China. Production of that generation ended in 2022.
Honda now plans to bring the Avancier back as a flagship passenger SUV. The targeted launch falls within fiscal 2026, which ends in Japan in March 2027. The vehicle is expected to offer seating for seven, with a strong emphasis on comfort and equipment.
One of the Avancier's key features is expected to be a more upscale interior. The front and second-row seats could offer both ventilation and heating, giving passengers greater comfort on longer trips.
For its technology, Honda is expected to draw heavily from its passenger-car lineup. The cabin could feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen running the Honda Connect system. The infotainment system is expected to integrate Google's operating system.
The rumored Avancier dimensions are 195.3 inches long, 76.8 inches wide and 66.5 inches tall. That would put it in roughly the same size class as the Toyota Highlander and firmly among larger three-row SUVs.
The powertrain is also expected to introduce a new solution. Insiders reportedly expect the Avancier to use a next-generation e:HEV hybrid system combining a 2.0-liter engine with two electric motors. The system is being developed to improve thermal efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
Another change could involve how the e:HEV system operates. When the gasoline engine and electric motors work together, the setup is expected to deliver stronger performance while maintaining an emphasis on fuel efficiency.
Japanese media estimate that the Honda Avancier could start at around 6 million yen, or approximately $39,100 at current exchange rates. Final pricing and other specifications will be revealed at a later date.
