Volkswagen is preparing powerful versions of its models under the name GTI Clubsport.
Volkswagen is seriously considering creating charged electric cars with the GTI Clubsport branding. Insiders say the first in the lineup could be the ID.2 GTI Clubsport — the project is not officially confirmed yet, but it is actively being developed within the company.
Heir to the legendary GTI, but on batteries
Brand representatives remind us: once, Clubsport versions were an evolution of the regular GTI — with stiffer suspension, improved dynamics, and increased power. For example, the Golf GTI Clubsport S delivered 320 hp, making it one of the fastest hatchbacks in its class.
The electric ID.2 GTI, according to preliminary data, will receive from 220 hp, front-wheel drive, and electronic differential lock — just like the modern petrol GTIs.
The standard Volkswagen ID.2 is not yet presented, but it is already clear that it will serve as the base for the «hot» modification. If launched, the Clubsport version may receive an aggressive body kit, larger wheels, and refined aerodynamics. In the future, such models could compete with the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior EV.
The decision to release the ID.2 GTI Clubsport has not been finalized, but Volkswagen notes that fans are expecting this very car. If the project gets the green light, it could be an important step in the evolution of sports electric vehicles.
