Following the debut of the Audi E5 Sportback, the Audi-SAIC joint venture in China isn’t slowing down — engineers are already working on the next electric SUV, built on an upgraded 800-volt platform. A heavily camouflaged prototype was recently spotted testing on Chinese roads. Despite the disguise, the SUV’s silhouette reveals familiar E5 design cues: similar body lines, slightly larger dimensions, and increased ground clearance. The front end currently features temporary lighting, but the signature light bar and headlamp shape closely resemble the Sportback’s styling.

From a technical standpoint, the new model promises to be no less advanced. It’s expected to support fast DC charging, offer efficient energy management, and come with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Inside, the SUV will feature modern innovations such as camera-based side mirrors, flush door handles, and a roof-mounted lidar sensor. At the rear, a split spoiler and a sleek LED light strip complete the look.

Preliminary data suggests that the base model will come with a 76 kWh battery and a 295-hp rear motor. Higher trims may offer 83 or 100 kWh battery packs, producing up to 518 hp with all-wheel drive, while the top-tier version will reportedly feature dual motors delivering an impressive 776 hp.

The official debut is expected next year. Audi and SAIC are also planning a third model, though details remain under wraps. Whether it will stay within the SUV segment or take a different direction — time will tell.
