New details continue to surface about the 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class as the flagship sedan enters the final stretch of road testing.

This upcoming refresh is shaping up to be far more than a light cosmetic update. A prototype wearing special 140th-anniversary graphics honoring the Benz Patent-Motorwagen has revealed revised front and rear styling, along with new headlights featuring star-shaped lighting elements. The side profile looks largely familiar, but the taillights now showcase a redesigned signature.

The biggest changes appear to be inside. Instead of the familiar dual-screen setup, the cabin now houses the massive Hyperscreen display seen in the EQS. Even through the camouflage, it’s clear the car is getting a new steering wheel and a row of physical buttons.

Under the hood, the model is expected to retain much of its current powertrain lineup. That includes a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six rated at 442 hp, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant pairing the same engine with a 28.6-kWh battery for a combined 503 hp.

Also slated for a comeback is the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 producing 496 hp, along with the range-topping S 63 E Performance, which delivers 791 hp from its V8-based hybrid system.
