BMW has unveiled refreshed versions of its iX electric crossovers, with the iX1 and iX2 gaining a noticeably longer driving range.
BMW has rolled out updated versions of its iX-family electric crossovers, focusing on improved efficiency and extended range. The refreshed iX1 and iX2 models are aimed primarily at the European market, but the changes are significant enough to draw wider attention.
Both crossovers now come with a slightly larger battery. Capacity has increased from 64.6 kWh to 65.2 kWh. While the upgrade may look modest on paper, it has delivered a meaningful boost in real-world range.
Depending on the version, the updated driving ranges are now as follows:
BMW iX1 eDrive20 Sport: up to 318 miles (previously about 293 miles)
BMW iX1 xDrive30: up to 288 miles (an increase of roughly 18 miles)
BMW iX2 eDrive20: up to 318 miles
BMW iX2 xDrive30: up to 294 miles
BMW achieved these gains not just by enlarging the battery, but through deeper hardware revisions. Most details remain under wraps, but the company has confirmed the use of a new silicon-carbide-based inverter, which helps reduce energy losses and improve overall efficiency.
As for pricing, the updated BMW iX1 eDrive20 Sport, the most affordable version in the lineup, starts at approximately $59,000. The revised BMW iX2 comes in slightly higher, with prices beginning at around $59,500.
Charging performance remains unchanged. Both the iX1 and iX2 support DC fast charging at up to 130 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in about 29 minutes.
In terms of performance, the single-motor eDrive20 version produces 198 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds. The dual-motor xDrive30 variants deliver 305 horsepower and complete the same sprint in 5.6 seconds.
