GM’s 5.5-Liter LT6 V8: Special-Edition Chevrolet Corvette and the Flkon Supercar

General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV), the official distributor of Chevrolet and GMC vehicles in Australia and Oceania, has introduced a new limited-run version of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Called the Z06 Bathurst 12 Hour Specialty Edition, the model celebrates the first-ever appearance of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R at the Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race. The event is held annually at Mount Panorama Circuit near the Australian city of Bathurst.

The vehicle was developed by GM Specialty Vehicles based on the production Z06 in 3LZ trim and equipped with the Z07 Performance Package. Upgrades include a retuned adaptive suspension with Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

It also features the Carbon Fiber Aero package, which increases downforce through a larger carbon-fiber diffuser, front splitter, dive planes, and rear wing. The car rides on 20-inch forged wheels up front and 21-inch wheels at the rear, with blue brake calipers visible behind the spokes. Additional highlights include a removable carbon-fiber roof panel, a unique “Switchblade Silver” exterior finish with black graphics, and Bathurst 12 Hour decals.

Inside, the special edition features a black-and-blue leather interior with carbon-fiber trim. The standard seats are replaced with sport bucket seats offering enhanced bolstering and blue seat belts. Each car receives a numbered plaque, and the engine bay is accented with blue lighting.

Power comes from the standard Z06’s naturally aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V8, producing 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 199 mph.

Chevrolet plans to build just 12 examples of the Z06 Bathurst 12 Hour Specialty Edition. Pricing has not been disclosed. For reference, the standard Corvette Z06 starts at approximately $237,700 in Australia, meaning the limited edition will almost certainly command a premium. Buyers will also receive commemorative Bathurst 12 Hour posters, a custom car cover featuring the Corvette GT3.R, and branded merchandise including a cap, polo shirt, and jacket.

Meanwhile, the same Chevrolet 5.5-liter LT6 V8 — featuring dual overhead camshafts per cylinder bank, a flat-plane crankshaft, and a dry-sump lubrication system — may soon power a far more exotic machine. A UAE-based startup called Flkon Cars recently announced plans for a supercar named Flkon, which it claims will become the first national supercar of the United Arab Emirates.

According to its creators, the Flkon will rival models from Ferrari and Koenigsegg. However, the car does not yet exist even as a physical prototype — all published images and videos have been AI-generated.

To bring the project to life, the startup is seeking approximately $24 million in investment. It promises potential annual net returns ranging from $8 million to $35 million for investors. Production is planned for the Jebel Ali Free Zone in the UAE.

Based on promotional materials, the Flkon is envisioned as a rear-wheel-drive, mid-engine supercar built around a carbon-fiber monocoque with aggressive aerodynamic body panels.

Buyers will reportedly be able to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and a dual-clutch automatic paired with the LT6 V8. Extensive customization options are promised — including even gold-anodized suspension components.

No official production timeline has been announced. Much will likely depend on securing the remaining funding. So far, the startup claims it has raised about 65% of the required capital.
