Stolen Corvette C7 Found at the Bottom of a Georgia River Nearly Six Years Later

A social media post helped identify a submerged Corvette Grand Sport and connect it to a theft reported in 2020.

Stolen Corvette C7 Found at the Bottom of a Georgia River Nearly Six Years Later

A Corvette C7 Grand Sport stolen in December 2020 has been discovered at the bottom of a river in Georgia. Local diver Jeremy Sides stumbled upon the sports car and shared a photo of the discovery on social media. Users eventually identified the owner through a name displayed on the windshield and connected the vehicle to an old theft report.

Sides is president of Rapid Compassion Collective, a nonprofit organization involved in locating missing people in bodies of water and recovering submerged vehicles. During a routine dive, he spotted the Corvette on the riverbed and posted a photo to his exploringwithnug social media account.

At first, Sides didn't realize exactly which car he had found. That changed after the image went online. Social media users noticed a name decal on the windshield and began searching for information about the vehicle. Their efforts led to a report dated December 11, 2020, documenting the theft of a Corvette C7 Grand Sport.

Within hours of the photo being published, users had reportedly confirmed the owner's identity and linked the submerged sports car to the vehicle that had disappeared nearly six years earlier.

Years underwater have likely taken a severe toll on the Corvette's mechanical condition. Water intrusion may have caused extensive, potentially irreversible damage to the engine and electrical systems. The exterior appears to have fared considerably better, with no obvious damage to the body panels and the C7's distinctive silhouette still easily recognizable.

Investigators now face the question of how the stolen Corvette ended up at the bottom of a Georgia river. The investigation remains ongoing, but authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced arrests in connection with the theft.

The C7 Corvette Grand Sport sits between the Stingray and the Z06 in the model lineup. It combines a wider body with Brembo brakes and a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8 producing 460 horsepower. Although the Grand Sport shares its engine with the Stingray, its wider chassis and performance-focused hardware give it a more track-oriented character.
