CADILLAC BEGINS DELIVERIES OF HYBRID XT5 PHEV: CLAIMED ELECTRIC RANGE OF 96 MILES

Cadillac has announced the start of deliveries to dealerships of the new 2026 XT5 PHEV midsize SUV. The vehicle features a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a driver-assistance system built around the Momenta R7 world model. This is a plug-in hybrid version of the crossover that was previously available only with a gasoline powertrain. 

The styling remains recognizable.

Designers did not radically alter the model's appearance. The crossover retains Cadillac's signature shield-shaped grille with a mesh pattern inside and separate headlight units on either side, a design that gives the front end an expressive and aggressive appearance. A lidar sensor is mounted on the roof, signaling the presence of advanced driver-assistance systems.

The body sides feature conventional door handles, while the wheels have densely spoked designs paired with gloss-black window trim, giving the vehicle a refined appearance. At the rear, T-shaped taillights are connected by a chrome strip, while a spoiler is mounted above them to emphasize the vehicle's sporty character. The familiar dual-sided twin-pipe exhaust system has been removed and replaced with a concealed setup, visually simplifying the rear end.

The new model's dimensions are:

length — 192.4 inches;
width — 77.0 inches;
height — 66.3 or 66.5 inches;
wheelbase — 112.7 inches.

What the Momenta R7 System Can Do

The driver-assistance system based on the Momenta R7 world model deserves particular attention. Unlike conventional systems that analyze only the road and obstacles ahead, this model also evaluates the physical properties of objects, the causal relationships governing their movement, and potential ways the vehicle could interact with them. Based on this information, the system creates more accurate, physics-consistent predictions of speed, trajectories, and evasive maneuvers. Developers say this approach allows the vehicle to handle complex scenarios with confidence, including rush-hour traffic, difficult road conditions, parking, oncoming traffic on narrow roads, and reversing along its own path.

Powertrain and Driving Range

The hybrid system is built around a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 154 hp, paired with the Hummingbird electric chassis designed for different road conditions. The front electric motor produces up to 215 hp, while the rear motor delivers 148 hp. Power comes from a 35.5-kWh Ultium battery using ternary lithium chemistry and supporting 5C fast charging.

The electric-only driving range is rated at 96 miles under the WLTC cycle, while combined fuel consumption is listed at 38.9 mpg. The XT5 PHEV therefore combines the familiar styling of the gasoline-powered model with modern hybrid hardware and advanced electronics, which should broaden the model's appeal among buyers looking for a more efficient alternative.
