Indian auto giant Tata to name its new crossover Scarlet

Indian automaker Tata Motors is actively working on a new budget crossover that may compete with the popular Hyundai Creta. According to preliminary data, the model will be named Scarlet and will be part of a lineup of seven new models planned for release by 2030. Insiders report that the car's design will resonate with the Tata Sierra concept.

Scarlet will be built on a modern platform with a load-bearing body, adapted for both internal combustion engines and electric motors. This will allow buyers to choose between traditional and eco-friendly versions.

The main engine is likely to be a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol unit with direct injection — the same is planned to be installed in the new generation of Harrier. According to preliminary data, its power will be 170 hp, and the torque — 280 Nm.

Some experts suggest that Tata may target the Suzuki Jimny, but it's important to understand: these cars have different designs. The Jimny is built on a sturdy ladder frame, making it more suitable for off-road conditions. The Scarlet, however, is likely to be an urban crossover focusing on comfort and efficiency.

According to Indian media, the new model's price will range from 800,000 to 1.79 million rupees (approximately $10,000–21,000). The model is expected to go on sale within the next two to three years.
