According to Ford representatives, the problem lies in the incorrect operation of the SYNC infotainment system.
Ford has found itself at the center of a large-scale recall campaign in the American market — the company is recalling more than 200,000 vehicles due to issues with the operation of the proprietary SYNC multimedia system.
According to official data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall will affect a total of 200,061 vehicles. The reason is a defect related to displaying the image on the screen when reversing. In some cases, the system does not show the video stream from the rearview camera, which can significantly reduce safety during parking and maneuvers. Cases have also been recorded where the image, on the contrary, does not disappear from the display after turning off the reverse gear.
The problem, as clarified in the company, lies in software glitches of the SYNC 3 system. In some cases, errors are also observed during software updates or incorrect display of language settings.
The list of models subject to recall includes the Ford Mustang, Ranger, Transit, as well as Expedition SUVs and the premium Navigator from Lincoln.
To fix the malfunction, owners need to contact authorized Ford or Lincoln dealers. At the dealerships, an updated version of the software for SYNC 3 will be installed free of charge.
Notably, this is one of the largest recalls initiated by Ford in 2025. Previously, the company has already faced similar cases — in particular, in 2021, Ford recalled about 620,000 vehicles due to similar problems with the image display system when reversing.
