Lucid Group, known for its luxury electric vehicles, has secured a $20.4 million investment from Uber Technologies, the ride-hailing giant. The funding is part of an ambitious project to develop a new generation of premium robotaxis, first revealed in early May.

The autonomous taxis will be built at Lucid’s plant in Arizona, where the company will leverage its own advanced manufacturing solutions. Importantly, these vehicles will operate exclusively through the Uber platform, ensuring seamless integration with Uber’s existing ride-hailing network and infrastructure.

The companies plan to launch the service in major U.S. metropolitan areas by late 2026. The upcoming robotaxis will be based on Lucid’s advanced Gravity architecture, which allows for flexible software configurations. Driving will be handled by the Neuro Driver system, rated at Level 4 autonomy—capable of full self-driving under most conditions without human intervention.

By combining Lucid’s cutting-edge EV technology with Uber’s vast network and fleet management expertise, the partnership aims to deliver a premium, highly efficient robotaxi service. This collaboration could reshape the future of urban mobility and redefine the ride-hailing experience for American cities.
