Shelby GT350/TA: Another Track-Focused Sports Car Based on the Ford Mustang

Shelby American has unveiled its most extreme version yet of the Shelby GT350 coupe based on the seventh-generation Ford Mustang (S650). The new model, dubbed the GT350/TA, was created to mark the 60th anniversary of the Trans-Am racing series and carries the “TA” designation accordingly. While performance has been maximized for track use, the car remains street legal.

Following the recent debut of the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC—effectively a successor to the Shelby GT500—it became clear that Ford and Shelby have gone their separate ways. Factory-built Mustangs wearing the Shelby name are not expected in the near future. Operating independently from Ford’s marketing department, Shelby American is free to expand its Mustang-based lineup as it sees fit, resulting in an especially diverse family of high-performance variants built on the S650 platform.

The new Shelby GT350 debuted last year and has already spawned a hardcore R version. Also introduced was the high-powered Shelby Super Snake-R. Now, the newly revealed Shelby GT350/TA stands as the most extreme GT350 variant to date. It was developed to honor the legacy of Trans-Am racing, where Shelby built its reputation and honed its expertise in preparing cars for extreme competitive conditions.

Built for the Track

The Shelby GT350/TA features a bespoke carbon-fiber aerodynamic package optimized for track performance. The large rear wing offers adjustable angle of attack. The hood, made of aluminum and fitted with a prominent vent, covers a comprehensively upgraded 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine.

Equipped with a Whipple supercharger, output exceeds 842 horsepower. The only transmission available is a six-speed manual, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a racing-spec Tru Track limited-slip differential with an external cooler.

The suspension system includes adjustable dampers with external reservoirs. The rear subframe is reinforced, along with upgraded half-shafts and wheel studs. The stiffness of the new anti-roll bars is adjustable. Stopping power comes from heavy-duty racing brakes supplied by Alcon.

Gloss black forged Forgeline VX1S wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires.

Inside, the rear seats have been removed and replaced with a steel tubular roll cage. Nearly every visible surface—including the floor—is trimmed in carbon fiber. The gear shifter has been shortened for more precise engagement.

Shelby American will build just 70 examples of the Shelby GT350/TA for the 2026 model year. Pricing starts at $219,995, including the donor Ford Mustang GT.
