Sunlight to Put Its Rugged Ibex 4×4 Adventure Camper Into Production

Volkswagen-based off-road camper concept heads for production after extensive testing in Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

Sunlight to Put Its Rugged Ibex 4×4 Adventure Camper Into Production

German RV and camper manufacturer Sunlight is preparing to launch mass production of one of the most ambitious projects in its history. The company’s Ibex 4×4, which currently exists only as a concept vehicle, is officially headed for production and will soon become available to customers.

The rugged adventure camper made its debut last year as a prototype designed for outdoor enthusiasts who want to travel far beyond paved highways. Unlike traditional motorhomes, the Ibex 4×4 was engineered to handle rough trails and remote terrain without sacrificing everyday comfort.

When Sunlight unveiled the Ibex 4×4 concept last summer, the automaker described it as one of the boldest projects it had ever created — and for good reason.

The prototype was built on the Volkswagen Crafter platform and packed with serious off-road hardware, including a front bull bar, snorkel intake, integrated LED light bar, and aggressive all-terrain tires designed for maximum grip in harsh conditions.

The production-ready Ibex 4×4 is expected to use the all-wheel-drive version of the Volkswagen Crafter. Visually, the final camper will stay very close to the original concept. However, engineers reportedly made several updates after a year of testing in challenging locations such as Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

One of the biggest improvements involves the fiberglass roof, which will provide nearly 6.6 feet of standing room inside the cabin.

Buyers will be able to choose from several exterior roof colors, including Desert Sand — the same finish shown on the concept — along with Glacier Blue, Lava Black, and Storm Gray.

Inside, the Ibex 4×4 will feature a surprisingly complete living setup for an adventure-focused camper van. The production model is expected to include a compact kitchen with cooking essentials, a small bathroom with a toilet and shower, and a full-size sleeping area.

Orders for the Sunlight Ibex 4×4 are scheduled to open in August. Pricing details will be announced closer to launch.
