2027 Volkswagen Tukan Imagined Again Ahead of Its Official South American Debut

Earlier this year, back in February, Volkswagen officially confirmed that the production version of the compact Tarok pickup concept first shown at the 2018 São Paulo International Motor Show would finally enter production for South America. However, the truck will arrive under a completely different name: Tukan.

Fans of the Volkswagen brand across South America have plenty to look forward to. The upcoming pickup is expected to replace the aging Saveiro while also serving as the spiritual production successor to the 2018 Volkswagen Tarok concept. Volkswagen Brazil recently teased the model once again, hinting that the official reveal is getting very close.

Not long ago, Volkswagen’s South American division shared another preview of the affordable compact truck designed mainly for Brazil and neighboring Latin American markets. The prototype appeared wearing colorful camouflage matching the playful Tukan name, itself inspired by the famous tropical bird.

Unfortunately for buyers in the United States and Canada, Volkswagen’s Brazilian branch has no plans to bring the Tukan to North America. That market continues to be dominated by the Ford Maverick, while the Hyundai Santa Cruz reportedly struggles to maintain momentum as Hyundai prepares a larger body-on-frame pickup for the future.

Instead, the new Tukan will go head-to-head with regional competitors such as the Ram Rampage, the Fiat Toro, and the upcoming Renault Niagara. And if the camouflage-covered prototype still leaves too much to the imagination, digital artists are already stepping in with their own interpretations.

One of them is Brazilian CGI creator Kleber Silva, better known online as “KDesign AG.” The artist recently published yet another unofficial rendering of the future Volkswagen Tukan after new teaser material surfaced online.

According to Silva, Volkswagen “partially revealed” the truck during a recent event in Rio de Janeiro. Even though the pickup remained covered, he believes several key styling details became obvious enough to inspire a more realistic renderng.

The digital artist says the latest teasers revealed the overall body proportions, wheel design, and even important elements of the rear section. Based on that information, he imagines the Tukan as a rugged and modern compact pickup with a sharper personality than the Saveiro, aimed directly at buyers seeking a more lifestyle-oriented truck.

But the project didn’t stop with just one version. Alongside a bright yellow Double Cab variant, Silva also created a more utilitarian Tukan Robust model. This entry-level Single Cab version features simpler trim and a design focused more on hard work than weekend adventures, making it feel more practical and work-orientd for budget-conscious buyers.
