Man Pays Nearly $80K for a New Ford F-150 Lightning, Sells It Three Years Later at a Loss

A well-equipped F-150 Lightning changed hands for $38,000 after its original owner logged nearly 66,000 miles.

Man Pays Nearly $80K for a New Ford F-150 Lightning, Sells It Three Years Later at a Loss

The Ford F-150 Lightning is no longer part of the automaker's lineup after production ended in late 2025, bringing a run of roughly three and a half years to a close. Even so, used examples continue to appear on the market, giving buyers an opportunity to pick up the all-electric pickup at a fraction of its original price.

One recent sale highlights just how steep that depreciation can be.

A 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat was recently auctioned on Cars & Bids, where bidding closed on July 2, 2026. The winning bid came in at $38,000, meeting the seller's reserve and securing the truck a new owner.

The seller originally purchased the truck new in July 2023 for $79,429. That means the vehicle lost $41,429 in value over three years. According to the listing, the owner is moving from Maryland to New York and decided to sell because a full-size pickup "isn't practical for city life."

The listing also notes that the owner expected to keep the truck for at least 10 years. Instead, it accumulated 65,800 miles during three years of ownership before being put up for sale.

Finished in Atlas Blue Metallic, the truck features a black and gray interior, 20-inch wheels, the extended-range battery, a 360-degree camera system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, a twin-panel moonroof, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 with BlueCruise, along with several other premium features.

Power comes from a 131-kWh battery pack paired with dual electric motors producing 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. With the extended-range battery, the EPA estimated driving range at up to 320 miles on a full charge.

According to the vehicle history report, the truck has never been involved in an accident and shows no mileage inconsistencies. Aside from a few minor rock chips and exterior scratches, no significant issues were disclosed.

The truck also includes an A.R.E. Classic truck cap and a BedRug bedliner, the only aftermarket additions listed by the seller.

Several factory recall repairs were completed during ownership, along with software updates and routine inspections. The sale also includes the charging cable and adapter, two key fobs, the original window sticker, service records, and the owner's manual. The title will be transferred after the outstanding loan balance is paid off.

Would you pay $38,000 for a one-owner Ford F-150 Lightning with nearly 66,000 miles on the odometer?
