HYUNDAI UNVEILS NEW PREMIUM EV BRAND: NEW MODEL CAN TRAVEL UP TO 404 MILES ON A CHARGE

Hyundai is preparing to launch presales of its new IONIQ V, with the announcement to be made at the Chengdu Motor Show. The vehicle is notable because it introduces a completely new premium EV brand from Beijing Hyundai called IONIQ, created specifically for the Chinese market. The model was developed by Hyundai's local design center, with its design requirements shaped around the preferences of Chinese buyers. At the same time, the company makes no secret of the fact that the new model will eventually be offered in other markets as part of its global sales strategy.

The vehicle is based on the E-GMP platform designed exclusively for electric vehicles. The IONIQ V offers a maximum driving range of up to 404 miles.

Exterior and Available Body Colors

Designers focused on straight lines and sharp surfaces, giving the body a sporty and dynamic appearance. There is no conventional grille at the front; instead, the front fascia is covered by a solid decorative panel. Separate lighting units are positioned on the sides: a horizontal strip of daytime running lights runs across the top, while the low- and high-beam headlights are integrated directly into the bumper.

The roof slopes gradually toward the rear, giving the vehicle a coupe-like silhouette. The doors are frameless, while the window surrounds are finished in black. The beltline extends from the front fender to the taillights, with another lower character line added beneath it. The rear features an integrated raised ducktail spoiler, while the model name is spelled out across the center of the trunk lid. The taillights feature a design inspired by stellar trajectories, while the bumper has a multilayered appearance. A black trim piece resembling a diffuser is fitted at the bottom, vertical reflectors are positioned on the sides, and a black protective trim piece is added along the lower edge.

The new model measures 193 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 57.9 inches tall, with a 114.2-inch wheelbase.

The body will be available in eight colors:

Interior and Technical Features

The interior follows a "Nebula Embrace" design concept. Suede and gloss-finish trim are used throughout, while ambient lighting mimics the pattern of a nebula. The centerpiece of the cabin is an ultra-thin 27-inch central display with 4K resolution. The infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and integrates large AI models, including Wenxin Yiyan and Doubao. A HUD called the "Cyber Eye" is also available, while the Momenta driver-assistance system handles driving support in both urban and highway conditions.

As for the powertrain, the vehicle features 800-volt fast-charging technology and a single electric motor available in two output versions rated at 188 hp and 225 hp. These powertrains are paired with 53.5-kWh and 66.8-kWh batteries, respectively. Under the CLTC standard, driving range is rated at 323, 336, 385, or 404 miles depending on the configuration.
