Multiple Stellantis North America Brands Hit With 844,027-Vehicle Recall

FCA US LLC is recalling 844,027 vehicles after a software problem was identified that can prevent the rearview camera image from appearing when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The recall spans a wide range of Ram, Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler models sold in the United States, covering vehicles from the 2026 and 2027 model years.

According to the NHTSA report, Stellantis North America estimates that 100 percent of the recalled vehicles are affected by the identified condition. The manufacturer's recall number is 78D, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has designated the campaign as 26V531. The issue involves radio software that may keep the rearview camera image from displaying during a backing event.

Harman Becker Automotive Systems is identified as the supplier of the affected system. The software issue also creates a compliance problem under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which addresses rear visibility. The standard requires the rear visibility system to default to displaying the rearview image at the beginning of a backing event. The affected vehicles therefore do not comply with the cited safety requirement.

The recall encompasses numerous 2026 models along with two 2027 models. The NHTSA report lists the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Gladiator, Grand Wagoneer, Compass, Wrangler, Cherokee, Dodge Charger, Chrysler Pacifica, Voyager, Ram 1500, HD, and ProMaster among the affected vehicles.

The Ram 1500 represents the largest individual group, with 211,114 vehicles included in the recall. These light-duty trucks were built between April 9, 2025, and July 21, 2026.

The Jeep Wrangler is next, with 170,033 affected vehicles, while the Chrysler Pacifica accounts for another 131,681. The recall also includes 108,804 Ram 2500 trucks assembled between May 6, 2025, and July 17, 2026.

At the opposite end of the recall's scale is the ProMaster EV, with just three vehicles delivered with the suspect radio software. FCA US LLC says the affected populations were established using production records and engineering change records.

The investigation began in May 2026, when the safety organization started reviewing field records, customer assistance records, and warranty data. Two months later, the technical safety organization determined that the issue could result in a noncompliance.

The remedy involves another software update. Stellantis North America plans to update the radio software over the air on vehicles equipped for that capability. Vehicles without the necessary capability will require a USB-based update instead.

Dealers will perform the USB updates at no charge to affected customers. Owners and lessees are scheduled to receive notification by first-class mail between September 1 and September 25. As of this writing, all affected VINs can be searched through Mopar's recall portal and the NHTSA website.

The scale of the recall stands out because of how many different vehicle categories it reaches rather than because of any single model. The same software issue extends across full-size pickup trucks, minivans, SUVs, commercial vans, and the liftback Dodge named Charger.
