Toyota Sienna Gets a Radical New Look in First Renders of the 2028 Minivan

The 2028 Toyota Sienna looks radically different in these first independent renders imagining the next-generation minivan.

Toyota may already be working on the next-generation Sienna, but the automaker has yet to announce any plans for a new model. Independent designers, however, are already imagining how the popular minivan could evolve. A new virtual concept from AutoYa gives the Sienna a redesigned exterior, a revised profile and an updated cabin featuring styling cues borrowed from Toyota’s latest models.

The Toyota Sienna originally debuted in 1997 as a replacement for the Previa in the North American market. The minivan arrived with front-wheel drive and gradually grew in size and equipment with each subsequent generation. Toyota introduced the current fourth-generation Sienna for the 2021 model year, and the model switched exclusively to hybrid powertrains.

The next-generation Sienna concept was created by AutoYa, which released a series of digital renders showing the possible design direction. The changes are immediately noticeable up front. The minivan features a full-width LED light bar, a slim upper grille and a smaller central air intake.

The front bumper is more substantial, while vertical daytime running lights sit at the outer edges of the lower grille. A large splitter, a more angular hood and a small Toyota emblem positioned above the central light bar complete the front-end design.

The virtual Sienna retains roughly the same proportions as the current model, but the side glass has been completely redesigned. The renders show new character lines on the doors, different door handles and side mirrors, side skirts and roof rails. The roofline slopes only slightly toward the rear, preserving the visual impression of ample room for second- and third-row passengers as well as a generous cargo area.

The wheels, taillights, rear liftgate and rear bumper have also been redesigned. The rear of the vehicle is only partially visible in the images, so some of the proposed styling details remain difficult to make out.

The cabin receives an even more extensive makeover. The digital instrument cluster, infotainment display, steering wheel and center console all feature a new design. The gear selector, buttons and controls have also been revised, giving the digital concept a distinctly different interior from the production Sienna currently sold by Toyota.

The creators of the render have also based the proposed powertrain on the current Sienna. The minivan currently uses a 2.5-liter hybrid system paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (e-CVT) with a simulated sequential shifting mode. Front-wheel drive is available on lower trims, while higher-end versions use an all-wheel-drive system.

The current Sienna hybrid produces a combined 245 horsepower in front-wheel-drive configuration, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 246 horsepower. The system uses a nickel-metal hydride battery pack.

Toyota has not announced when a new Sienna will debut. If the next-generation model is already in development, however, a reveal could take place within the next few years.
