This 1998 Volvo S90 Has Just 1,378 Miles After 28 Years—and It’s Going to Auction
A remarkably low-mileage 1998 Volvo S90 is heading to auction in Sweden, but age-related issues remain.
Automotive time capsules are becoming harder to find, making well-preserved examples increasingly appealing to collectors willing to pay a premium. A 1998 Volvo S90 now offered for auction in Sweden could attract that kind of interest, having covered just 1,378 miles in 28 years.
According to the listing, the sedan was stored indoors and kept off the roads during winter. That limited use, however, has not prevented age-related mechanical issues from developing.

A Classic Volvo From the End of an Era
The first-generation Volvo S90 debuted in 1996 as an evolution of the 960. It retained the earlier model’s technical foundation and flagship position in Volvo’s lineup. The related wagon was called the V90.
Production of both models ended in 1998, placing this example among the final cars from Volvo’s classic rear-wheel-drive family.
The sedan is being sold through the Swedish auction platform Klaravik. It is located in Kil, in Sweden’s Värmland region.
The listing identifies two registered owners and includes a collection of supporting documents. These reportedly include a service book, purchase agreement, inspection records and receipts for completed work.
Low Mileage, but Not Without Problems
The auction listing identifies an automatic transmission, although it does not specify the exact engine version.
Despite its exceptionally low mileage, the S90 will need attention before returning to regular road use.

The timing belt has already been replaced, but the car’s age raises the question of whether another replacement is due. An authorized service center also found signs of moisture around the transmission oil pan, which may require resealing.
The radio is another problem: It does not work.
Those issues may be only part of the work awaiting the next owner. Rubber seals, lubricants and other components can deteriorate over time even when a vehicle spends most of its life sitting indoors.
As a result, a car that appears almost new at first glance could still require a substantial investment to make it road-ready.
What Will This Low-Mileage Volvo Sell For?
Klaravik has not announced a starting price for the lot. The final sale price will depend on the bids submitted during the auction.
Bidding is scheduled to close on October 21, 2026.
