Suzuki Prepares Revolution: Legendary Jimny to Become an Electric Car
Suzuki is testing the electric version of the Jimny. Prototype spotted in Europe. Suzuki has begun road trials.

Suzuki is making a decisive step into the future: the already iconic Jimny off-roader is getting ready for a comeback, but this time with an electric motor under the hood. Recent footage from Southern Europe captured a camouflaged prototype, confirming — the electric version is inevitable. This might be an unexpected but winning move, especially in light of rumors about a mini-Land Cruiser from Toyota.
The prototype is built on the Suzuki Wagon R platform, with numerous body and chassis modifications indicating that we are not just looking at a converted city electric car. Auto experts suggest that an early version of the upcoming Jimny EV might be hidden under the camouflage. Perhaps it will be a compact version for the Japanese market or a global modification of the Jimny Sierra, adapted to the tastes of European customers.
An interesting detail: during the tests, the electric prototype was accompanied by the Dacia Spring — another budget electric car. This suggests that Suzuki is developing not just an experimental platform, but preparing a full-fledged production model.
Once, issues with ecological norms forced the Jimny to leave the European market. However, switching to electric power removes this limitation. Back in 2023, Suzuki announced plans for large-scale electrification, and the Jimny EV clearly will be one of the key players in this strategy.
The debut of the electric Jimny is expected no earlier than 2027. It remains a mystery what exactly it will be — a simplified urban 4x4 or a full-fledged off-roader with serious off-road capability. But one thing is clear: Suzuki is not planning to give up its position, and the legendary Jimny is once again ready to conquer roads — this time on clean energy.
