Toyota Models Emerge as Vehicles That Effectively Preserve Value: U.S. Market Analysis

Vehicle depreciation is an important factor for many car owners, especially younger buyers who plan to replace their current vehicle with a new one in the near future. A car with strong resale value can significantly reduce the cost of purchasing a new vehicle.

International analysts recently conducted a study to identify vehicles that lose little to no value even after three years of ownership. The analysis covered model years 2022 through 2025.

The results showed that Toyota models do the best job of preserving their owners’ money. Toyota vehicles claimed six spots in the top 10 rankings, including all three of the top positions.

2022 Toyota 4Runner

The best performer in terms of value retention after three years was the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross, with depreciation of just 2.63%.

Second place went to the 2022 Toyota 4Runner, which lost 4.85% of its value, followed closely by the 2022 Toyota C-HR at 4.89%.

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek ranked fourth, losing 4.9% of its original price over three years, while the fifth spot was taken by the 2022 Toyota Tacoma, with depreciation of about 5.34%.

Rounding out the top 10 were the 2022 Ford Mustang (–5.41%), 2022 Nissan Versa (–5.74%), 2022 Toyota Sienna (–5.8%), 2022 Honda Civic (–5.84%), and the 2022 Toyota RAV4, which depreciates by approximately 7.9% during the first three years of ownership.
