Volkswagen Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged “Sudden Acceleration” in ID.4 EV

Volkswagen is facing a class-action lawsuit claiming that the vehicle’s touch-sensitive controls can trigger unintended acceleration.

Two Connecticut drivers say their Volkswagen ID.4 sped up on its own without the accelerator being pressed, and they blame the EV’s touch-activated steering-wheel controls.

Volkswagen’s legal team disputes the allegation. The company argues that any unintended acceleration was caused by the driver pressing the accelerator pedal, not by accidental taps on the haptic steering-wheel buttons.

VW also said the lawsuit “relies largely on vague, unsupported allegations that lack the specific facts needed to substantiate the plaintiffs’ claims. And while each plaintiff asserts an incident supposedly tied to the steering-wheel controls for adaptive cruise control, neither provides evidence showing that these controls triggered the incident — let alone that a defect exists. The plaintiffs also fail to show that any dealer has ever diagnosed an issue with the adaptive-cruise steering-wheel controls on their vehicles.”

Because of this, Volkswagen is seeking to have the case dismissed.
