Late August is considered an ideal time to get your car back in shape after summer road trips. Experts told AvtoVzglyad what exactly should be checked, replaced, and repaired on a vehicle.

First of all, specialists recommend thoroughly checking the condition and operation of the lighting equipment, as well as inspecting the body panels and glass. The tires should also be checked carefully. Pay attention to tread wear, cuts, bulges, or stones lodged in the grooves. Tread depth should be at least 1.6 mm. In some cases, after driving on rough roads, it is recommended to have the wheels balanced, as wheel weights can come off, and it may also be necessary to have the wheel alignment checked, especially the camber.

The second important area to check is the braking system. If you feel vibration when braking or hear squealing or grinding, that is a warning sign. The thickness of the brake pads should be checked, with a minimum of 3 mm, along with the brake fluid level. Heavy loads at high speeds or driving on mountain switchbacks, according to experts, can lead to additional expenses after returning home.

The condition of other automotive fluids also deserves attention. When visually inspected, engine oil should not be black and thick; otherwise, it should be replaced as a precaution. The same applies to coolant if it has a rusty color when inspected. The radiator should also be checked after frequent summer trips. An inefficient cooling fan or radiator fins clogged with fluff can cause the powertrain to overheat.

As for the fuel system, specialists recommend checking the fuel filter, high-pressure fuel pump, and fuel injectors. In some cases, cleaning may be necessary.
