Next-Generation Kia K5 Revealed Early in Unofficial Renderings

What could the next-generation Kia K5 look like if Kia gives its midsize sedan a full redesign in the coming years? Independent designers have already offered their take on the next K5, envisioning a car that could retain its technical connection to the Hyundai Sonata while gaining a more distinctive Kia design.

The K5 name has been used in most markets since 2010, although the model's roots trace back to the Kia Optima sedan. The current-generation K5 debuted in 2019 and serves as Kia's midsize sedan in the U.S. lineup. Over the years, the K5 has shared its engineering foundation with the Hyundai Sonata at various stages of its development.

What the Next K5 Could Look Like

The current Kia K5 debuted for the 2021 model year and received a facelift for 2025. Now, YouTube channel AutoYa has decided not to wait for an official reveal and has created its own vision of what the next-generation sedan could look like. The speculative model could arrive around 2027 or 2028 if Kia moves forward with a new generation.

The renderings are not official Kia images. They represent an independent designer's interpretation, meaning the production car could look significantly different if and when Kia eventually unveils it.

According to the designers' vision, the next K5 would maintain its traditional relationship with the future Hyundai Sonata while adopting a distinct exterior design. The sedan could also grow slightly larger than the current model. The creators of the renderings point to the latest Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson as examples of the broader trend toward larger, more substantial designs.

Kia has not released any technical details about a potential next-generation K5. There are also no preliminary details about its engines or transmissions, so it is too early to make any definitive predictions about the sedan's powertrain.

A New Infotainment System

One potential upgrade could be Hyundai Motor Group's Pleos Connect infotainment platform. According to Korean media reports, the automaker is gradually introducing the system across its newer models. The Hyundai Grandeur was reportedly the first vehicle to receive Pleos Connect in its home market.

The same technology is expected to eventually make its way into Kia vehicles as well. It is not yet known whether the next K5 will receive Pleos Connect, but the system could be a natural fit for a new-generation sedan if Kia decides to launch one later this decade.
