Ford Updates the F-150 With More Power and Hands-Free Towing

Ford emphasizes that the F-150 has undergone a major refresh rather than a full redesign, with changes to its hardware, technology, and styling. A special edition was also introduced in collaboration with well-known American clothing manufacturer Carhartt.

The key changes are under the hood. The base Ford F-150 drops its 2.7-liter turbocharged engine in favor of a 3.0-liter turbocharged powertrain. The new engine produces up to 325 hp, with peak torque arriving at just 2,250 rpm. This gives the pickup more pulling power. The truck can tow trailers weighing up to 8,400 pounds. Its payload capacity is 1,755 pounds.

As part of the update, Ford added the 5.0-liter engine to all available trims, whereas it was previously offered only on higher-end versions. The engine's maximum output remains unchanged at 400 hp. The updated truck also retains the 3.5-liter turbocharged engine, which produces up to 400 hp. With this engine, the F-150's maximum towing capacity increases to 13,500 pounds. In the Raptor, maximum output rises to 450 hp.

The 3.5-liter engine can optionally be paired with an electric motor producing an additional 47 hp. Combined output in this configuration reaches 430 hp. The hybrid version also comes with a system that allows external devices to be connected. All engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Ford has added a new Carhartt version of the F-150 with redesigned interior and exterior styling. The truck features unique 20-inch wheels, a revised grille, dual exhaust outlets, and additional body coating designed to protect against minor damage. The cabin uses new two-tone materials with contrasting stitching.

At the same time, Ford upgraded its BlueCruise hands-free driving system, which allows drivers to travel on highways without keeping their hands on the steering wheel. It now supports hands-free driving while towing trailers up to 33 feet long and weighing up to 10,000 pounds. Higher-end versions also receive a new grille and wheels.

Ford has opened preorders for the F-150 but has not announced official pricing. Deliveries of the pickup will begin early next year.
