Chrysler Will Shift to Affordable SUVs as the Company Overhauls Its Strategy

At the moment, Chrysler's lineup effectively consists of one vehicle—the Pacifica minivan. The recently introduced Voyager is a more affordable version of that vehicle. Moreover, the current Pacifica has remained largely unchanged for many years. But Chrysler will become a different company in 2027.

The American company previously unveiled two new SUV concepts, the Arrow and Arrow Cross. It later became known that Chrysler will also release another crossover called the Airflow. It will be the first to reach the market, with the production version set to debut in fall 2027. The vehicle will cost around $35,000. The Arrow and Arrow Cross, meanwhile, will move Chrysler into a segment the company left in the mid-1990s. According to preliminary information, both crossovers will cost around $25,000. In other words, the American company is returning to the affordable-car segment, as a Stellantis executive has confirmed.

Interestingly, Chrysler has launched affordable models only during periods of crisis. This happened in the 1960s and 1980s. At the time, the company introduced the Newport, which was described as an "entry ticket" to Chrysler, the E-Class, and the K-Car platform. The latter effectively saved Chrysler from bankruptcy. Several models were built on the K-Car platform, including the Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant.

Chrysler is also facing a crisis today. A single model cannot generate the production volume needed to support such a large company. Chrysler's only vehicle is the Pacifica minivan, which has trailed its competitors in sales for many years.

According to Stellantis management, the arrival of these crossovers should help turn the situation around. All three models are based on the latest STLA One platform, which was unveiled in spring 2026. It is highly versatile. Stellantis is gradually moving many vehicles from its brands to this platform. This allows the company to increase production scale, reducing the cost of each individual vehicle. Therefore, it can be assumed that the new Arrow and Arrow Cross will indeed be affordable.

Both crossovers are reportedly set to debut with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, with an available plug-in all-wheel-drive system. Versions with a 2.0-liter engine and fully electric powertrains are expected to arrive later.
