Kia Recalls Nearly 48,000 Seltos SUVs Over a Potential Fire Risk
Kia is recalling 48,070 Seltos crossovers in Canada after discovering a defect that could cause an electrical short circuit and fire.
Kia is recalling 48,070 Seltos crossovers from the 2024–2026 model years in Canada over a potential fire hazard. The recall affects only vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive.

The problem involves the all-wheel-drive control unit located beneath the driver's seat. Salt and moisture can contaminate the unit, leading to corrosion over time. That corrosion could cause an electrical short circuit, creating a fire risk even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is switched off, according to recall information published by Transport Canada.
What Owners Should Do
Kia advises owners of affected vehicles to park outdoors and keep their Seltos away from other vehicles and structures until the necessary repairs are completed.
Dealers will inspect the all-wheel-drive control unit and replace it if necessary. Other components may also need replacement, depending on the inspection results. A protective cover will be installed over the control unit as part of the repair.

The 2027 Seltos Is Not Included
The recall does not affect the redesigned, second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos, which went on sale this summer. The new model features a complete redesign and a more refined approach to the subcompact SUV segment.
Owners who are unsure whether their vehicle is affected should check the recall information for their specific vehicle and contact a Kia dealer for guidance.
